The journey began in a small basement in Örebro, Sweden, where Jenny Helldén and Marie Lindqvist-Pahlstad brought their bold idea to life. Though neither had run a company or even designed a piece of furniture before, they shared the idea of creating environments where professionals and students could focus, collaborate, and thrive.
They reached out to Pontus Thorsson, an acoustics researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, who brought deep knowledge to their vision. Together with local craftsman Joakim Frendin at Frendins Snickeri, they created their first sound-absorbing screen. It was the beginning of something meaningful.
Jenny and Marie took on every role in those early days. They learned the science of sound, managed finances, designed catalogs, and tested prototypes with real users. Their close contact with customers shaped Zilenzio from the very beginning. Our solutions are created by people, for people.
That same spirit is still with us today. The basement has been replaced by an entire building, and our team now includes acoustic experts across Europe and the United States. Along the way, we’ve teamed up with some of Scandinavia’s most respected design studios and architectural firms, including Note (design studio), Norm Architects, White Arkitekter, and Studio Stockholm. These collaborations, along with our close work with researchers and professors in acoustics and workplace environments, help us keep finding better ways to support people at work and those in learning environments, and to shape the workplaces of the future.
